Hey y’all~ Susan Gibson here~ back in 1998, I got struck by lightning and a song that I wrote in my early 20s got recorded and released and sold millions of albums. But I don’t consider that the main thing qualifies me as a songwriter. It’s also the dozens of other small, quiet songs that hit folks one at a time. And the songs that never make it out of my writing room. I love the process. And sometimes I hate the process. We will begin with a brief introduction to the fundamentals of songwriting, including essential elements such as melody, lyrics, and song structure. We’ll engage in collaborative exercises aimed at sparking creativity, such as brainstorming sessions and group lyrical challenges. And we will continually remind each other that songwriting is a process, not an event.
