Little Lost Girl (100% written and performed by myself, Sammy J) Verse 1: She was a lost girl livin' in this dark world... Nobody ever told her just how much she's worth. She did what she could to catch their wandering eyes. He said what worked to get her home that night, with no intention of staying til the sunrise. He leans in close and whispers to her sweet lies. (and he says) *Chorus: Put on that lipstick Princess, and pour you another glass of wine. Don't you twist it, I'm your hero tonight. "I just want ONE kiss", he says "miss" as his hand slides up her thigh. It will be our little secret darlin' just close your eyes. Woo hoo hoo hoo, pour you another glass of wine, Woo hoo hoo hoo, just close your eyes. Woo hoo hoo hoo, you can go home if you like, but you're damned if you do, and damned if your VICTIMIZED. Shhhhh... Vers2: He's got the silver tongue of a handsome Devil... Mama said "Stay away, that boy's trouble!" Is he aware of all the damage he's done telling every girl that she's the ONLY one? Well I guess that's what you get when Daddy never came home. The boys eyes dried up, and his heart turned to STONE. So he says: *Put on that lipstick Princess, and pour you another glass of wine. Don't you twist, it I'm your hero tonight. She's the Little Lost Girl, He's the Devil in Disguise. Bridge: Her tears were always there to tuck her in at night. The only light she sees are headlights leaving the drive. He wonders if his tired should will ever be revived... She wonders if she'll ever really matter in this life... Wooo...woooo... Still he says: *Put on that lipstick Princess, and pour you another glass of wine. Don't you twist, it I'm your hero tonight. She's the Little Lost Girl, He's the Devil in Disguise.

This songs bring lights to the effects that abuse and neglect have on children, and how sometimes, these Little Lost Boys and Girls carry these effects carry into adulthood, either by continuing to allow people to use and devalue them, or becoming one of the users. When I was growing up, my parents took in Foster Children, and these many beautiful children are the inspiration behind this song. Written and Performed 100% by ME, Samantha J. Cronk (Sammy J)
Harriet Ross Lyrics by Meg Lauren All rights reserved I’m just a girl from P.A. 14 years of age and I write To make a request there are those can attest to my words I’m not rich but not poor And it’s not my goal to climb beyond my means But I’ve heard of your land, sir And hope that I can, sir Submit one plea That you might read You see I’d like to correspond with a cowboy I thought that maybe someday he might take me to stay somewhere greener and bluer than here In the open air I work as a winder with silk from all over the globe But my daily wages keep me in the cage of black gold I don’t want a coal miner The breaker boys’ darkness it grows And I know I’m not pretty but I’d work real hard to hold my own Won’t you let them know? ‘Cause I’d like to correspond with a cowboy I thought that maybe someday he might take me to stay somewhere greener and bluer than here Away from the noise of wealthy man’s toys In the open air Well the bosses, they say, “work ten hours a day in brick and steel” So I keep the ends up, put the dime in my cup but I feel That I’d like to correspond with a cowboy I thought that maybe someday he might take me to stay Somewhere greener than here Away from the noise of wealthy man’s toys In the open air

This song is inspired by a real letter written in 1911 from a young girl named Harriet Ross to the Governor of Texas.
Hell and Half of Texas I lost my mind on the Comal county line when you left me And I got real drunk down in San Antonio to ease the pain Got high in Del Rio washed clean in the Frio Faked love for a night in in Ft. Worth I’ve been through hell and half of Texas Still can’t get you off my mind I should move on, but I just can’t forget ya Every mile marker county road and city limit sign reminds me That I’ve been through hell and half of Texas I took to runnin but your memory’s faster Than this ford This truck pulls toward Austin and it’s all I can do to ignore In Wichita Falls almost ended it all But I put down that 44 I’ve been through hell and half of Texas Still can’t get you off my mind I should move on, but I just can’t forget ya Every mile marker county road and city limit sign reminds me That I’ve been through hell and half of Texas It ain’t been easy but I still got half a state left to find heaven Cause I’ve been through hell and half of Texas And I still can’t get you off my mind I should move on, but I just can’t forget ya Every mile marker county road and city limit sign reminds me That I’ve been through hell and half of Texas Ive been through hell and half of Texas I’ve been through hell and half of Texas I’ve been through hell and half of Texas

I watched the moon rise tonight I counted the wishes that were left in the sky And yet here I sit alone thinking of you I played for thousands of faces And all of the smiles and voices shining my way Still couldn’t take my mind off of you Away is always where I tend to be And all this road has shown me is where I’d rather be Is in your arms dancing, barefoot in the kitchen Stepping on each other’s toes Laughing, cause we don’t really know What we’re doing But we’re doing it together You called me and told me you loved me And you ordered my favorite take-out Chinese “Just because, for good luck, 'cause I was thinking of you” I told you that I’d never leave you Doesn’t matter the miles between Our love runs too deep. There’s nothing that could keep my mind off of you Away is always where I tend to be And all this road has shown me is where I’d rather be Is in your arms dancing, barefoot in the kitchen Stepping on each other’s toes Laughing, cause we don’t really know What we’re doing And I think that it’s time To put the road far behind And your hand in mine So we can be dancing barefoot in the kitchen Stepping on each other’s toes Laughing, cause we don’t really know What we’re doing But we're doing it together Whatever we’re doing As long as we’re doing It together
Long Sleeves She wears long sleeves and a perfect smile Even holds his hand Laughs and talks for a little while Tells them he’s the perfect man Driving home, she looks at him Tries to remember a time back when He thought she was perfect Those days elude her now Shame enfolds her when her friends ask where she’s been They don’t call much anymore; every now and then And she says, everything is fine, fine, fine He tells me he’s sorry She’ll wear long sleeves Even hold his hand Laugh and talk for a little while Tell them he’s the perfect man Driving home, she looks at him Tries to remember a time back when He thought she was perfect Those days elude her now The house is always a mess I hate it when you cry What are you doing in that dress Remember, I can tell if you lie She says, everything is fine, fine, fine He tells me he’s sorry Long sleeves She laughs for a little while Tells them he’s the perfect man Driving home, she looks at him Tries to remember a time back when He thought she was perfect Those days elude her now
She’s got her high heels, hair back, make up on Picked up the keys to his old '61 Collects her thoughts before she grabs the gun. Cause tonight, she decided, he’s done All the bruises she wears, all the scars that she bears Oh, she hid them for too long And the booze on his breath, well, it scared her to death So it’s time to right some wrongs She put the pedal to the metal down the 75 Danced with the Devil on the way to where he goes every night But when she saw him stumble to her Lincoln lights She didn’t need that bullet no more, she put that high heel to the floor She took a moment to collect her thoughts Before she got out, screamed, and called the cops Cried out in fear so she would not be caught Cause tonight he was finally done No more bruises to wear, and the scars that she bears Well they won’t keep her down And with his last breath, came no regret Cause he won't be back around Since she put the pedal to the metal down the 75 Danced with the Devil on the way to where he goes every night But when she saw him stumble to her, Lincoln lights She didn’t need that bullet no more, she put that high heel to the floor Well, the judge was understanding of The way the road curved just right And the way that he came, prolly would have made His presence just out of sight When she put the pedal to the metal down the 75 Danced with the Devil on the way to where he went every night And when she saw him stumble to her, Lincoln lights She didn’t need that bullet no more, she put that high heel to the floor And she swears it was accidental So she got to keep the continental
Comments:
Resubmitting based on an email from Robert Linder: This song began as a 30-minute songwriting challenge with three randomly generated words: ‘continental,’ ‘understanding,’ and ‘collect.’ At first, I wasn’t sure how to approach ‘continental,’ but when I landed on the idea of the classic car—the Lincoln Continental—the story just started to flow. What began as a creative prompt quickly turned into something much more personal and emotionally charged. Though the events in the song aren’t from my own life, they reflect the experiences of people I know. It’s a fictional story, but rooted in real emotions—fear, resilience, and the moment someone finds the strength to stand up and say 'no more.' I wanted to honor that turning point. I wrote this song to give that woman a voice, and to imagine what it might look like for her to finally reclaim her power. It’s dark, yes—but it’s also about agency, survival, and the complicated decisions people make in impossible situations. It’s not just a revenge ballad—it’s a survival anthem.
When I look into your eyes all of your lies seem true, yes they do And every day I try not to cry but I do, it’s nothing new And you know I’m a novice at smooth talking but you’re well broken in And you know the words to pull me right in You knew the words to pull me right in And this back and forth got me feeling like a snake drawn in And I wondered how many others had been in my shoes And when you told me that you loved me I finally knew it was all just a ruse Of a snake charmer You had me tied around your finger and dancing in a daze You made me feel like I was beautiful as I was trapped within your mind maze You knew I was scared of moving quickly but you had your own poison And you knew what you wanted when you pulled me right in You know what you wanted when you pulled me right in But this back and forth got me feeling like a snake drawn in And I wondered how many others had been in my shoes And when you told me that you loved me I finally knew it was all just a ruse Of a snake charmer Your deception was an infection that left me paralyzed You seduced me with illusions that left me hypnotized You had my lips sewn and my tongue tied to keep me reigned in You knew you could pull anyone else right in You knew you could pull anyone right in You knew you could pull anyone in And this back and forth got me feeling like a snake drawn in And I wondered how many others had been in my shoes And when you told me that you loved me I finally knew That you're a snake charmer I was a victim of your magical tricks and finesse And the melody that you played was a distortion of my distress
Comments:
Resubmitting based on the email I received from Robert Linder: Snake Charmer draws heavily from both metaphor and research. I studied how real snake charmers manipulate their snakes—not just with music, but with physical control: sewing their mouths shut so they can’t bite, tying them around their fingers to control movement, and relying on hypnotic patterns to keep them subdued. Those same tactics became the foundation for this story—a song about emotional manipulation, where the narrator finds themselves seduced, silenced, and trapped in someone else’s carefully orchestrated illusion. The line between affection and control can be dangerously thin. This song lives in that tension.
TOO OLD FOR AUSTIN by Randy Polk, I went home with the Armadillo Cowboy hats and ponytails Punked out at Raul’s Two stepped at the Split Rail Marsha Ball at the Broken Spoke For a buck and a half at the door Nickle beer and dollar pitchers Who could ask for more? But nowadays two sets at the Saxon Pub It’s just too damn exhausting That’s when it hit like a ton of bricks I’m too old for Austin In the 70’s me and Willie owned this town In the 80’s disco sucked! The 90’s we tried to keep it weird Guess we didn’t try hard enough In the aughts and the teens the official bird Was the construction crane Now days you can’t even see the dome or the tower It’s just insane I don’t like to drive in that traffic That I’m always gettng lost in Them silent Teslas sneak up on a fella That’s too old for Austin. Used to party with the best of them Could stay out all night long Pack a little shit up my nose And grab another hit off that bong Ice down a case of beer at 2am And hit the road without warning Along daybreak, grab a migas plate And have a bloody mary morning But nowdays it’s just toast and eggs Without any hot sauce on ‘em Me and stomach have decided that We’re too old for Austin Too old for Austin It’s a young man’s game They got them short brim hats and them big bushy beards They kinda all look the same I remind all the girls of their Grandpa Whatever chops I ever had, I lost ‘em Too many kisses on the forehead from all the pretty girls Tell me I’m too old for Austin All the girls got topless at Barton Springs Oh yeah, the water was also nice. Got naked down at Hippy Hollow Got lucky there once or twice. Floated the Guadalupe And the San Marcos River Then head to Gruene or Cheatham St Or the dance hall out at Fischer But last year ‘ole Jake Fell into Town Lake And that’s how we lost him He’d be the first to agree That he got too old for Austin I used to dive right into South X Now I try to be out of town ACL got too damn big Don’t get me started on Formula One 6th Street is just a mess The Drag is all sanitized The East side ain’t wild no more It’s become all gentrified There’s a girl on every corner with a baby stroller In yoga pants out walkin’ I miss them halter tops and daisy dukes Yeah, I’m too old for Austin Well a Boomer is gonna complain That’s kinda what we’re here for Nothing’s good as it used to be And everything sure cost more But as long as we got statues standing Of Willie and Stevie Ray I’ve got faith that my old hometown Is gonna be ok But when it comes time to dig that hole And for me to get tossed in Just put on the slab that I weren’t too bad, I just got too old for Austin Too old for Austin It’s a young man’s game They got them short brim hats and them big bushy beards They kinda all look the same I remind all the girls of their Grandpa Whatever chops I ever had, I lost ‘em Too many kisses on the forehead from all the pretty girls Tell me I’m too old for Austin Every time I turn around Maybe time to get out of this town Man, it was fun back in the day Well, you know what they say He just got too old for Austin
Honey Be
Wildflowers like a runway led me back to my hometown
The house I grew up in and friends I lost touch with still around
Childhood bedroom looks the same way I left it but
I’ve outgrown the clothes in the closet
Compare these photos of a girl next to who I am today
If I could talk to her I’d say:
You’ve been hiding honey
Running honey
Underneath you’re so funny and lovely
You can try
Cry Honey
Things don’t always have to be sunny it’s ok
Just be(e)
Honey be
I know they told us to be quiet, careful and clean
Get up and keep going, it’s nothing, it’s just a little sting
Remember what dad said “watch for snakes in the grass” and
Don’t let their venom get you off track
But you can bloom from the hurt, & rise from the pain
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain
You’ve been hiding honey
Running honey
Underneath you’re so funny and lovely
You can try
Cry Honey
Things don’t always have to be sunny it’s ok
Just be(e)
Honey be
You’ve been hiding honey
Running honey
Underneath you’re so funny and lovely
You can try
Cry Honey
Things don’t always have to be sunny
You can’t please ‘em all
And we’re not here for long
So just be(e)
Honey be
Honey be
Honey be
